Default My computers think they are connected to a modem

my 2 '98 computers think they are connected to a modem instead of a
router/broadband. I know this because i go control panel-network, try to
edit properties for tcp/ip, and its says it is connected to a modem...

Suggest you go into Device Manager, right-click the Modem and then
Properties, and "Disable in this hardware profile". Then go into Network
applet and remove everything that is there. Restart your machine and the LAN
adapter should automatically reinstall. You might have to run WINIPCFG to
Release All and then Renew All. to reconnect to your router.
