Windwos Me won't boot
Unable to start Windows ME, used startup disk but unable to start in
safemode, I followed help directions on startup disk but nothing will get it started. When I did a directory of C drive no windows directory listed. Also tried to use restore disk but I get the message this program must be run under WIN32 when I try to boot from the CD. Any suggestions would be appreciated! |

Windwos Me won't boot
What exact error message do you get when you attempt to boot Win Me?
When you boot to DOS using a boot floppy (startup disk) and run DIR C: what do you see listed? I'd hold off any further attempt to use your recovery CD until you/we know more about the problems you are experiencing. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows [2001-2006] mbg1261 wrote: Unable to start Windows ME, used startup disk but unable to start in safemode, I followed help directions on startup disk but nothing will get it started. Windwos Me won't boot
OK, I'm sorry but as far as I am concerned it has to be all bets off since
you have GoBack installed and you need to hope that someone with experience of GoBack sees your plea for help and dives in to help. Due to having GoBack installed you are unable to see your hard drive when booting to DOS and have to follow the exact instructions provided by GoBack if you wish to see your hard drive, the reason being that GoBack has changed the partition type or "descriptor" meaning that it cannot be seen from DOS unless GoBack is running or GoBack disabled. The C:\ drive you are seeing when you run DIR C: after booting to DOS with your setup floppy is the contents of the RAM drive set up by the boot floppy and not the contents of your hard disk. Check the documentation that came with the PC for how to proceed. You should be able to use GoBack to restore your system to the state it was in when it was last functioning correctly. It is probably because GoBack is installed that your Win Me Recovery CD gave the error message it did when you attempted to use it. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows [2001-2006] mbg1261 wrote: When I attempt to boot to Win Me it freezes at the goback screen(gatweay pc that has goback progam by adaptec) when I run a dir of c: here is what listed: attrib.exe chkdsks.exe command.com debug.exe edit.com ext.exe extract.exe format.com help.bat mscdex.exe readme.txt scansdisk.exe scandisk.ini sys.com |
