reformatting the hard drive
Hello,
does anyone know what the command is to reformat the c drive in order to reinstall the recovery disk software? My kids got a virus on a HP with Windows 98. I'm trying to talk them thru (they don't live with me) reinstalling the software but I believe they need to reformat the hard drive because simply installing the CD restore disk won't let them do it. Thanks for any information. Regards, Steve P. |

There is probably no need to format the drive but if you must go to:
http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/w98_restore.html What is happening--are the .exe files not working properly? If so, that can be fixed. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "stevep" wrote in message ... Why does it not let them, what happens when they try?
IIRC HP has 2 ways to recover, the first is recovering software/drivers from the 2nd CD ( if more than 1 ) which runs in Windows. This is from HP support on my old Pavilion 7125. http://tinyurl.com/4nl2q The second is a full system recovery which can be done in 2 ways, Format and Recover or Recover Only. http://tinyurl.com/5q6jk To see if yours is the same or different start he http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html Select Support and tshoot info Type in the make/model On the next page select Setup and Install On the next page select System Recovery -- Brian A. Conflicts start where information lacks. http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "stevep" wrote in message ...
