Perplexed over sudden Full Disk
For some reason, my C disk is suddenly full when
previously there was 1 GB of memory free. The capacity on this disk is 4.75 GB and it is saying I have used 4.7 (up from 3.7 previously). I haven't downloaded anything recently except for ie6, which isn't even close to that size. I don't know much about memory, but I have always had a lot of it to spare. The other thing that happened just before I got that my disk was full, was I tried to download a screensaver, which quit downloading after only 100 KB. I meant to hit "close" on the box, but accidently hit "open". The program began to run continuously, doing what I don't know....I tried to delete it but couldn't because it was continuously running. Perhaps stupidly I left it go, and I'm not sure how long afterwards but I got a message saying my C drive is full. The only other thing I downloaded yesterday just before that was an ie6 update, trying to solve recent problems I have with downloads quitting early (as in the screensaver case). Anyone know how I can determine what has filled up 1GB of disk space ? I would really appreciate the help, thanks ! LA |

Memory refers to Ram--not available hard drive space.
If the screensaver download was in a .scr (versus .zip for example) format, do a search on: *.scr and see what you find. You also might want to Open Windows Explorer and delete the contents of your Temp folder. I'd also delete the temporary internet files (open IE, tools, internet options, general tab). Check the status of your recycle bin--if full, dump it. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "LA" wrote in message ... Thanks for your help. Nothing came up on the *.scr search
except the usual screensavers, so I don't think that could be the problem...and I already deleted temp files and recycle bin, which had little in them. I'm thinking of uninstalling ie6....I dunno, that seems to be the only thing taking up the missing 1GB of space. I had no idea it would be so big. That is just an awful lot of disk space to be suddenly full...I'm surprised by it. LA -----Original Message----- Memory refers to Ram--not available hard drive space. Perplexed over sudden Full Disk
Thank you CJT...that was just what I needed I spent an
hour (or two) looking through my C drive trying to find some big mysterious file and this was taking too long. I should have noticed I could do selective searches in Find before....great tip; hope I get to the bottom of this now.
