Installed new master HD, re-installed ME, DVD burner does not work

Hello everyone,
My currect PC is a Dell Dimension 4100 series (about 4-5 years old or so).
Running on Win ME.

Since purchasing this machine, I have added a 40 GB slave HD, a sony CD
burner and a Pioneer DVD burner (DV107). All hardware has worked great.

Recently I was able to get my hands on a used 120 GB maxtor hard drive. And
since some malware or spyware infested my machine, I figured it was a good
time to replace the master drive.

Everything has been re-installed, the only exception is I cannot get my DVD
burner to work properly. Windows recognizes the burner in device manager and
I ran windows update from internet explorer.

I have always used Nero and Nero recognizes the drive and will even begin
the burn process. The problem is that it is very slow or doesn't even
complete the burn.

Suggestions?
