CIMOM Error Massage !!!

I get following CIMOM error message:

(1) every time I try to start MS Flight Simulator 2004 A Century Of Flight
(2) once when I went to STARTRUN and ran DXDIAG.

cDon't have a clue what CIMOM is, nor how to fix it, although I do notice
that CIMOM.EXE is in C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM/WBEM/. Any suggestions please?

My PC is Aptiva PII with Win98, and don't have this problem with any of my
other programs, including several multimedia s/w.

Cimon.exe (and the wbem folder) is part of the "Web-Based Enterprise Management"
component of Internet Tools in Windows Setup. The components are used by "system
administrators and support technicians to provide remote problem tracking and system
administration." Is there some reason you have this installed on a home system?

Click Start Settings Control Panel Add\Remove Programs Windows Setup tab,
double-click "Internet Tools", un-check the Web-Based Enterprise Mgmt selection,
click OK, then click Apply.

You're the first person in months (!) to give me a logical explanation for
what might be the actual reason for this CIMOM error message.

My apologies that the CIMOM error message didn't appear in my original
question. It read: "The repository file was not created by the currently
installed version of CIMOM!" This seems serious because it comes up when I
try to run my MS Flight Simulator 2004 program. In fact, FS2004 won't start
at all and I have no idea why. Do you think I should be concerned about this
error message? If I remove the WBEM stuff, as you suggest, will all my apps
still run OK, despite this CIMOM error message? CIMOM seems to run even when
I do straight forward Windows Explorer tasks!?

And finally, I have no idea why the WBEM & CIMOM stuff is on my PC. I've
seen at least one other person in the Community Newsgroups seeking a solution
to this exact same CIMOM error message. I've had my PC for a few years now,
but the CIMOM error message only started appearing last October (strangely
enough, around the same time I installed my FS2004 program). Is it possible
that the WBEM stuff could have been installed on my PC from a remote location
without my knowledge? It's not a type of spyware, is it? My high speed
Internet connection is connected all the time.

I dunno....looking at your post on this issue a few days ago in the SimRadar forums

it seems there is more to your issue than just what you have posted here.

I do not use FS2004 or any other version, so I can only suggest you uninstall
Web-Based Enterprise Mgmt in Windows Setup tab. I don't think it was installed by
spyware or malicious web sites, but I suppose anything is possible in that arena.

Did as you suggested about WBEM, and that seemed to make the CIMOM error
message finally go away. HOWEVER, FS2004 still won't start up. It just
freezes at start-up. HOWEVER, I also just discovered that FS2004 can be
started in SAFE MODE, which seems to work. But I still don't now why it won't
start up NORMALLY. I guess I need someone with FS2004 expertise now. Thanks
for your help.
