Default My Computer & Folder script error

For the past several months, I have been away from home for extended periods
and in for a few hours on weekends. On one of my weekend "visits" (mid to
late Aug. '04) I had several Critical Updates come in, so I downloaded them
successfully. About a month ago, I was in and doing some work on the computer
(PC-WIN98SE). I have my files set-up to be viewed as web pages and when I
tried to scan through my files looking for a particular photo I was wanting
to use, I noticed I was now getting an Internet Explorer Script Error message
every time I tried to open a file or folder.

When I open My Computer, the first thing I notice is the upper left hand
corner icon is gone and a box with a red "X" is displayed in it's place
(missing icon box?). Also gone is the Hard Drive "Pie Chart" icon (just white
space, no missing icon box). I have my system set-up for single click select,
so when I hover over an icon, I immediately get the Script Error dialog box,
which states:

"An error has occured in the script on this page.
LINE: 116
CHAR: 4
ERROR: Object doesn't support property/method (JOE edited for space)
CODE: 0
URL: file//C:\WINDOWS\web\mycomp.htt"

I click yes to continue running scripts to go to the next folder or file. In
the next window (C: drive in this case), again I get the missing icon box in
the upper left corner. The folder name however is displayed to the right of
the icon area. When I hover over the next item, again I get the script error
box. This message is a bit different from the first:

"An error has occured in the script on this page.
LINE: 269
CHAR: 4
ERROR: Object doesn't support property/method (JOE edited for space)
CODE: 0
URL: file//C:\WINDOWS\web\folder.htt"

Clicking yes to running scripts closes the dialog box and the particulars of
the file or folder are displayed (ie: name, type, size, modified time &
date). If the selected file was an image file (jpeg, gif, etc) the preview
box which used to display a thumbnail of the image is not displayed. I though
perhaps in my absence someone may have downloaded something nasty, but a
virus/spyware scan reveals nothing.

Well, that's my problem. I'm no computer jockey so please give complete
step-by-step instructions for possible solutions to this mess. If I view my
folders normally (not as web pages), I don't get the script errors (or
prieviews either!).

YOUR ASSISTANCE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

My thanks in advance,
JOE
