Default 100% load on system memory

my pc is running "100% load on system memory" I recently had my hard drive
replaced and for some reason, nothing is running off it......only off of
system memory. How can I fix that?
I have 1.3 gig HP Pavillion running on Windows ME

There is nothing to fix. If your memory isn't being used it is being
wasted. Win Me has a pretty good memory manager and it does its job well
and as part of that job will utilise in some way all the memory that is
available. Rather than worry unnecessarily about something that isn't a
problem post details of the problems you are having and I'm fairly sure
someone will be able to help.

You, of course, are correct. Being a bit of a novice, I failed to mention my
pc is running much slower after my hard drive was replaced then before. I
assumed it had something to do with memory because, in addition to my pc
running slower then normal, I tried to install aol 9.0 and I got 8.0+
instead. I contacted AOL tech support and they informed me of the problem
with my memory which I reported in my post. They advised I did not have
enough memory to install 9.0 and to contact my pc manufacturer. My hard
drive is huge (80), my ram is not bad (96) and my processor is pretty
fast(1.3 gig). My pc should be running much faster then it currently is.

I belief 128 Mb or RAM is minimum for AOL. Do you have any ides of the
make of your motherboard? If you do go to www.crucial.com and find out
if and what you need for memory (RAM). Also, were the motherboard
specific drivers installed with the new hard drive.

AOL does NOT require 128MB RAM - in ME (although it may need it in XP!)

I was told by the computer repair tech that all drivers were installed. How do I check if this is accurate? I have been to the Windows Download site and downloaded all critical patches already.

You need to go to Device Manager, and check the driver versions installed,
then go to the manufacturer's website, and see if they have more recent
versions available.

AOL 9.0 recommends 128mb of RAM but it is not required for ME. However,
from personal experience, on a Win ME machine running 64mb of RAM, using
9.0 will result in 98% load (according to AOL's System Info program located
in the start menu) with no other programs running other than ZoneAlarm. The
recommended load for any version of AOL is around 75% or less.

Loads above 75% result in AOL starting slower, it takes forever to
minimize/maximize, and other programs running at the same time will be
signicantly slower, depending on their individual memory usage. Other than
that, AOL should run fine.

Keep in mind that this is with 64mb of RAM. With your 96mb? of RAM, expect
about an 85-90% load and only slightly faster results.

I stand corrected.....
quote
AOL 9.0 requires a Pentium-class computer with a speed of at least 166MHz
running Microsoft Windows 98 or higher, 128MB of RAM, a monitor resolution
of 800 x 600 or greater, 350MB of free disk space, a modem and a phone line.
AOL 9.0 will try to install Internet Explorer 6 if this, or a later version,
is not already present.
If you have more than 64MB, but less than 128MB of RAM, then selected
features in AOL 9.0 will not be available.*

snip

*The list of unavailable AOL 9.0 features is: SuperBuddy™ Icons, Desktop
Themes, Advanced Themes, Advanced IM Wallpaper, Toolbar QuickViews, Address
Book QuickView, Apple QuickTime, Video Instant Messaging (Windows XP only).

Thanks for all the information. My main convern however is not AOL, which seems to be working (except for buddy list but I can live without that) but my pc in general is very sluggish. Before I had hard drive replaced, everything I clicked on came up lightening fast. Now everything I click on, is very sluggish. Start, Programs, Display....etc etc......come up after a hesitation which I am not used to on this machine. This pc now works slower then my previous 200 mhz machine. I was hoping there was a download or a setting that was needed.
