FINAL CONFIRMATIONS
------------------------------
Please give me final confirmations on which things need to be
completely
uninstalled vs just disabled before running IEradicator. Since NET
Framework
and its service packs are not verified, and since I only need 1.1 and
not
1.0, I feel it's best to remove them both and make a fresh start.

In the last sections, please make sure I have all the steps in the
right
order. After IE/OE are reinstalled, I may need to reconfigure
ZoneAlarm to
be able to access to the Internet, email/newsgroups, and the home
network.
If that doesn't work, then I will need to uninstall/reinstall my SBC
Yahoo!
software, but let's not worry about that unless it's necessary. I
assume
that I will need to set up my identities and mail/news accounts from
scratch
before importing backups of news and mail messages and custom
settings. If
at any time I run into a problem I cannot fix, I will let you know.
Thanks.

NET Framework

AFAIK, there's only a need for one version (1.1 - and the patch

of
NF - it us an update to 1.0, and so contains all the

functionality of
the
earlier version. If you find that a program requires NF1.0 rather

than
1.1,
then that is because that program uses undocumented functionality

(i.e.
a
bug) in NF1.0

Excellent, but you did not tell me whether NF needs to be

uninstalled

reinstalled. No check marks appeared next to any of the NET

Framework
components, and I'm wondering if that's normal or not. Similarly,

is
there
supposed to be check mark next to IE6 SP1? How will NF be affected

by
the
removal of IE? Should I go ahead and uninstall both Net Frameworks

and
reinstall only 1.1 after IE is back, or should I leave all Net

Frameworks
alone?

(3) There may be some other problem with Windows.

You don't seem to understand what IERadicator will do - IT will remove ALL
if Internet Explorer of whatever version is present on your system.
You do not need to touch the IE entries in Add/Remove Programs

Your 'completely Uninstall' list should not need to be any longer than
LiveReg
GoodMEM (which should NEVER have been there in the first place - and is
likely to create more problems than even Norton!)
LiveUpdate 2.5
Norton System Works
RAMIdle (again - should never have been there - and if it's active at the
same time as GoodMEM, then you really have been asking for major trouble)

As for the 'Disable' list - If you run IERadicator while in Safe Mode, then
that list is automatically disabled anyhow.

Your pre-run checklist is missing one major item - a full system scan of all
files with your AV (before you remove it)

Your post-run checklist -
I'd leave ZoneAlarm alone until after you've installed the 290700 patch
Once Zone Alarm is happy, install ALL the available critical patches from
Windows Update, no more than two at a time, with a reboot between each set.
Do Not do any web browsing except to Windows Update until after you have got
Zone Alarm functional again, and do NOT have Norton active when installing
the updates.
Once that's complete then post the hotfix listing to the newsgroup, and
start testing your other apps.

than
1.1,
then that is because that program uses undocumented functionality

(i.e.
a
bug) in NF1.0

Excellent, but you did not tell me whether NF needs to be

uninstalled
and
reinstalled.

Frameworks
alone?
(By the way, what does AFAIK mean?)

Which version of Office are you installing? Office 2000 and XP

already
install Jet 4SP8.

Office 2000 SR1a Premium (after slipstreaming, it will be

SR3+hotfixes)

http://support.microsoft.com/?KBID=829558
contains a link to the update for ME.

Wonderful. Now why couldn't I find that?

I will uninstall this from Control Panel and reinstall it later.

Windows Updates to Uninstall/Reinstall/Install

apart from the fact that there are a number of IE ( and other)

patches
missing, that hotfix report looks fairly normal.

Which updates (patches) are missing?
(1) I may not have reinstalled them after reinstalling WinMe, or
(2) If I did reinstall them, they did not install properly, or
(3) There may be some other problem with Windows.
Some updates have been replaced by later updates, and not every

update
in
Windows Update and the Windows Update Catalog applies to me.

Updates for
IE55SP2 will not be needed. Updates for MDAC (other than MDAC 2.8)

will
not
be needed. WebTV and Euro Tool updates will not be needed.

What is wrong with GoodMEM and RAMIdle that they should "never have been in
there"? What "major trouble"? They were never active at the same time as
each other, but I used RAMIdle at the same time as the Windows Resource
Meter.

I have the Windows Resource Meter start up with Windows. It lets me know
when I run low on resources. It is a good guide to see if there are enough
resources to open a particular application at any given time. It helps me
know when it's time to reboot. I wish it also showed me system memory like
RAMIdle does. I will not reinstall either GoodMEM or RAMIdle if they will
hurt my operating system, but the Windows Resource Meter is a feature
important to me. If there is a better memory manager and system resource
manager, please tell me what it is. Thanks.

A full system antivirus scan will take more than 4 hours. I just ran a full
scan 01-14-05. Do I really need to run another one?

If NET Framework is not verified, why leave it installed? Why not uninstall
it completely and reinstall it?

Thank you for letting me know I can run IEradicator in Safe Mode.

Also, I need to know if there is a way to reset Windows Update so that it
will offer me all possible updates.
