I think this will solve your problem:

Thanks for the link, but I don't want to set a blank password. Even if the
password is blank, I still must hit enter during startup on some of my Win98 laptops. Others never ask. I don't want it to ask. I know how to do this in Win2K and in WinXP, but Win98 has me stumped. |

If you follow the instructions, you will not get the prompt.

Tried it; didn't work. Setting the password has nothing to do with whether
the system eenters it automatically at startup. There is a Network Identification Wizard hidden somewhere that asks whether I want the system to assume I'm that user when Windows comes up. I have stumbled on that wizard before, but can't find the blankety-blank thing now. -- Carl "Alan Edwards" wrote: If you follow the instructions, you will not get the prompt. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/index.html In microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion, Carl Hayes nn5i wrote: Thanks for the link, but I don't want to set a blank password. Thanks, all, for the desire to help. Unfortunately, none of these replies
will work for me, because they all require use of a null password. With a null password, I can get the laptop to come up without a password prompt, true enough; but I cannot use a null password. I use the "administrator" userid, and the same password, on all PCs on my network. Most of these come up with no password prompt (even three machines running Win98 -- the others are all Win2000pro or WinXPpro), but with the Administrator password entered automatically by Windown at logon. I push the power button, go drink a soda, and when I return it's up, with the whole network available. But on TWO of my Win98se machines I have to enter the password! I know how to configure this in Win2000pro and WinXPpro, and I know Win98se can be taught to do it (I have three Win98 machines doing it). It can be done! If I use a null password on these machines, then I'll have to enter the Administrator password for each machine I connect to! Much worse than what I've got now. Maybe I'll just run Win2000pro or WinXP on the laptops. Still, I'm very grateful for the attempts to help. -- Carl "Menno Hershberger" wrote: =?Utf-8?B?Q2FybCBIYXllcyBubjVp?= wrote in : On some of my Win98 laptops, I must enter a password at startup.
