alt-ctrl-del not working on AMD motherboard?

Hello,

I have Win98SE. I replaced my old Intel Celeron 2000 motherboard with
motherboard V4MDMP and AMD Athlaton XP 3000 CPU. I kept old disks -
after reinstaling drivers for almost everything (new MB have
integrated sound, video, network) PC is working again, except:

alt-ctrl-del is not working (nothing happens when I press those
keys).

Window Media player is not working at all (does not starts), but
RealOne player is working. Also Jukebox plays mp3 music.

Any hints how to fix those problems?

For the Ctrl+Alt+Delete problem (you must use the Delete key, not a Del key on the
numeric keypad):

Click Start Run, type: system.ini and click OK.
Look under the [386Enh] section heading.
If it contains the entry "LocalReboot=Off" or "False", change it to "LocalReboot=On"
or "True".
If it does not contain the entry, add it:
LocalReboot=True
Click File menuSave, then Exit.
Re-boot.
Test.

For the Windows Media Player problem: install it over itself, or upgrade to WMP9.

Save the file to the hard drive, then run the installation when the download

even after adding LocalReboot=True to [386Enh] section (this statement
was missing in my system.ini).
Do you know the program name that this screen which shows which
application is running?

I find the DEL on the numeric keypad DOES work with Ctrl-Alt-Del. Here
is another possibility...

"START button, Run, RegEdit", & navigate to...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Exp
lorer

That is,
(a) Click plus signs, beginning at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" & ending with
"Policies".
(b) Click "Explorer" in the left pane, & look in the right pane.
(c) R-Clk "NoClose", if there, in the R-pane, & select "Modify".
(d) Change it to zeroes: 00 00 00 00.
(R-Arrow to left of "01", use delete key, type "00".)
(e) Exit, & it may be necessary to reboot.

WARNING: Do not get carried away in the Registry. It is very important
to the proper functioning of Windows. Muss it badly, & you must boot to
DOS & "Scanreg /Restore". Then, choose the date of the last successful
boot from the five offered.

NoClose To disable Shut Down.
NoFavoritesMenu To remove Favorites.
NoFileMenu To remove the File Menu in Explorer.

NoRecentDocsHistory To disable the Documents compilation process.
NoRecentDocsMenu To remove Documents.
NoRun To remove Run.
NoSaveSettings To prevent some few settings getting saved to the
Registry.
NoSetFolders To disable Control Panel and Printer folders.
NoTrayContextMenu To disable Taskbar context menu.
NoViewContextMenu To disable (all?) context menus.

Double-click the new entry, select modify, and add this value: 01 00 00
00.
To reverse the action, change the value to: 00 00 00 00

Zalek, there is no program involved with Ctrl+Alt+Delete....it is AFAIK an inbuilt
Windows function that relies on functionality from the BIOS. There may be a BIOS
setting interfering with it, depending on what options are available in your
particular BIOS setup.

BTW, PCR is correct about the Del key....it will work as well as the Delete key. I
must have had experiences with an old laptop in mind when I wrote that. :-)
