Default Plug and Play Devices

Hi,
I installed a new modem which is plug and play. I also
installed the ME driver for this modem. Windows ME does
not recognize it. I have universal plug and play setup.
Does anybody have any ideas how to recognize the plug and
play devices. I also tried a NIC pci card and it doesn't
get recognized either.
Thanks

Are you saying that if you open the Device Manager there are no entries
for either your modem or your NIC and no entries with a big yellow
question mark either?

BTW UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) has nothing to do with plug and play
and the recognition of your hardware by your PC.

Right. Windows ME does not come up Found New Hardware
after installing the PCI modem card.

They don't show up under device manager because ME doesn't
find them as new hardware after they're installed. Is it
possible that something is messed up with ME?
Thanks.

Does your motherboard's bios see these devices?

In which case that is where you need to look to solve your problem. If
the bios can't see the devices and list them in the POST screen then the
operating system won't either.
