Default Startup Hangs while loading software for new Hardware found

I have a problem with a Dell Optiplex Gn+ where the video
card would not work (the monitor was blank).. I placed a
video card into the PCI slot which got my monitor back but
now I cannot boot without the PC hanging - first it loads
new hardware for PCI/VGA compatible video adapter ok....
then it freezes up while installing new software for "New
hardware found" listed as: S3 Trio64V2-DX/GX (775/785) I
can boot in safe mode but I don't know what to fix or how
to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I
thank you in advance for your assistance Jim
