Default Tapisrv error

I recently started getting a "Tapisrv.exe has caused an error in
(unknown)..." error. When this happens, if I try to connect to Earthlink, I
get an error telling me I need to set up another location. If I try to do
this, it doesn't work. If I, instead, reboot, I can then go online. I am
using IE 6.0. I've tried to research this but for the most part don't
understand what I'm reading. Apparently there is some sort of memory "leak"
(the computers--not mine. Well, maybe mine too!). Also, sometimes Norton
tells me I have to uninstall and reinstall the program. Again, if I reboot,
all is well. How can I fix this problem?

I found out the "q" doesn't belong (not my doing)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254332/
Without it I was directed to the same site as your link provides, Mark.
Thank you four the correction.
Hope this will help miamae.

Yikes! looks scary!!! I think that's one of the sites I viewed earlier.
Anyway, after getting a late start this evening (now this morning) I've made
copies of the relevant pages from the recommended link and will try to
resolve the problem after a good night's rest. I will, of course, report
back on my success. See, I'm already optimistic. Perhaps I caused this
problem a couple of days ago when I edited the registry, trying to resolve a
problem with the View menu that no longer gave me an option of choosing
Thumbnails. I did finally resolve that but apparently created another
problem. Thank you all for your replies and suggestions.

The problem was a typo Harry -
your link:-
http://support.microsft.com/kb/q254332/
works if you spell microsoft properly -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q254332/

(next time try using copy/paste!)

In which case, you *might* find that a System Restore, rolling back to 'just
before' you edited the registry, is a better solution - particularly if it
was only 'a couple of days ago'.

BTW - miamae also wrote :-

That's another issue which *might* be resolvable using other techniques.
Let's sort one thing at a time - get your SR done first, then worry about
the thumbnails.
