Missing System Files W98
My system is missing autoexec.bat, cmd.exe, netstat.exe, drwatson.exe,
rundll32.exe, taskman.exe, taskmgr.exe, winlogon.exe, regedt32.exe, netmsg.dll, and windsock.dll. I have run TDS-3 and cleaned up a trojan virus, but can't seem to find the necessary files to run my system with sound and a few other items. I have searched my diskettes for 98 and can't seem to find the files there either. Help? -- Thanks - Polly |

They are not all system files for Win98.
Autoexec.bat is unnecessary. Use a blank one if you really want a file. Cmd.exe is not a Win98 file. Netstat.exe can be extracted from your Win98 CD. Drwatson.exe can be extracted from your Win98 CD. Rundll32.exe can be extracted from your Win98 CD. Taskman.exe can be extracted from your Win98 CD. Taskmgr.exe is not a Win98 file. Winlogon.exe is not a Win98 file. Regedit32.exe is not a Win98 file. Netmsg.dll is not a Win98 file. Windsock.dll is not a Win98 file. To extract the 4 Win98 files one at a time, use SFC (Start-Run-SFC and extract one file) ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/index.html In microsoft.public.win98.performance, "Polly" wrote: My system is missing autoexec.bat, cmd.exe, netstat.exe, drwatson.exe, rundll32.exe, taskman.exe, taskmgr.exe, winlogon.exe, regedt32.exe, netmsg.dll, and windsock.dll. Thanks for the advise. One item that did run within the autoexec.bat was for
my sound card, Blaster. It Set Blaster = A220 I5 D3 T4. I have restored this file and my system keeps clearing the autoexec.bat out after a restart. Is there another area to set blaster? You must have some third party application clearing autoexec.bat as
Win98 does not do that. Creative normally uses autoexec.bat for the Set Blaster command, though unless you use sound in DOS, I don't know why you would need it. You can try it in Config.sys (not personally tried) unless someone else has a better idea. Can you determine what is deleting autoexec.bat? ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/index.html In microsoft.public.win98.performance, "Polly" wrote: Thanks for the advise.
