Unable to start up
I usually leave my computer on as I have a high speed
internet connection and various firewall protections. The other day it would not come out of sleep mode so powered off and tried to reboot. The screen displayed the Windows logo for about 7-10 seconds than brought me to a screen where I was asked to choose between several startup options, including "normal" and several "safe mode". I tried several safe mode options and every time it brought me to a screen that indicated an error in something .exe (I dont have the entire msge as the screen goes blank after about 2 seconds), it also says that Windows may need to be re-installed. After this, my computer automatically powers itself off. Why is this happening?? I already checked out yr Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles 143283 and 306615, but they were not helpful. Please urgently advise. Thanks. (please reply to as i can not access my msn acct.) |

At this point you may want to boot to command prompt and
do scanreg/restore. Should be at the prompt C:\scanreg/restore and hit enter Choose a date before this started. -----Original Message----- I usually leave my computer on as I have a high speed internet connection and various firewall protections. That sounds pretty horrible. Before anything else, it may be wise to
clone the partition, using something from this list... Once you have a functioning system, especially one close to a clean install, do a full system backup. If you have multiple partitions, I guess a backup is a bit more complex. It depends upon the ties between the Registry & the other partitions, as to whether they must be backed up concurrently. Also, if you've changed the hardware since the backup, you may need to change it back before a restore. http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/index.html Backup & partitioning strategy http://home.wanadoo.nl/geurt/home.html Extended Operating System Loader http://powerquest.com/driveimage/ Drive Image http://www.acronis.com/products/trueimage/ TrueImage http://www.arjsoftware.com ARJ Archiver http://www.betterbackup.com/ Retrospect CD Backup http://www.bootitng.com/ 's BootIt NG, has a variety of backup capabilities: Copy to HDD, or Image to HDD or to CD.
