Default error message

I just started getting this error:
SMART failure predictged on hard disk 0 Maxtgor 96147H6-
(PM)
A failure may be imminent
Press F1 to continue.

After pressing F1 computer runs fine. I can't find any
support on this error. Help!
I can't back up system either because I do not have the
original CD for the OS. It was not with the computer
when I bought it. I am pretty sure I have a start up
disk though.
Thank you

A big clue should be the word FAILURE. This message has nothing to do
with the operating system you are using but instead your hardware is
talking to you. In short your hard disk is about to die and you need to
backup all of your data and programs immediately before you lose the lot.
