Default long filename recogition lost

All of the sudden, my system no longer recognizes long
filenames. Any clue or hints as to why? Thanks.

Select "Long File Names, utility" on this index for some clues.

It must be able to recognise long file names or Windows
probably wouldn't boot, because it uses long file names
itself.

What is the exact error message that comes up?

I have a file called c:\My Documents\Lions
Info\Donations.doc.

When I doubled click the file name (either on the desktop
shortcut, from Win Explorer or My Computer) Wordpad starts
(i.e. the window opens) and then I get the error "Can't
find file c:\My" and then it says more things I can't
remember:-(

Thanks for your reply. I checked the site and could not
find an appropriate answer. See my reply below to Eric for
a more detailed explanation of my problem.

change shortcut string, enclose filename in quotes, it is assuming that the
filename truncates at first space and that after that are parameters, eg
copy[space]file1[space]file2
try "C:\My Documents\Lions Info\Donations.doc"
