Default Dumb Mouse Problem!!

This is a new one......I thoroughly cleaned the little devil out (cats and
mouses do not get along well, grin).

Now if I click on a post (2 times out of 3), it flips up a *reply to post*
instead of just lying there quietly and letting me read it.

Does weird things in IE as well.....but will go and check some more things
out and report back.

Oh....and in Windows Explorer, I was trying to check a couple of older
Downloads and when I try to highlight them, it activates them as if I double
clicked on them. I checked the Mouse in Control Settings and it seems to be
the same.

New mouse in order? The durned thing is driving me nuts!!

Cheers......Heather

Shoot!! Clicking on IE on the lower left brings up two identical
pages.....so it seems that Mousie is doing 2 clicks in one. Affects
everything I touch. Mail, posts, browser. I will dig out an old mouse and
try it later.....doing some old fashioned pickle making today (and
tomorrow).....a huge job and labour intensive.

Hey....some of us have to keep the *ancient ways* going.....but this is my
only aberration, grin.

Check that you don't have "Single-click to open an item [point to select]"
selected in Folder Options | General.

No.....it is on double click. Hmm.

Oh well, back to slicing and dicing. It has to be something with cleaning
this mouse. It is acting weird.....so when I get a chance, I will try an
old one.

Cheers.....Heather

Should that affect the browser in the way Heather describes, Mike?
I checked mine as 'single click' and don't have any problems with it.
Could it have something to do with the settings for the mouse itself?
Just a thought.

Hi Mike.....

Changed to another *plain jane* mouse (no scroller) and it is working fine,
so guess I messed something up in the innards of the other one. Bizarre how
it affected so many things, but I will go out and buy another scroll one.
It lasted 3.5 years.....not bad.

Cheers....Heather

After 3.5 years I should think that mouse needs a good holiday.
Fortunately mice are pretty cheap - at least the optical wheelmice I use.
The most expensive I've got is a small usb mouse I use with my laptop.
The life of that mouse is however quite short - mainly because daughter #2
tends to wander around with the laptop and the mouse "dangling" which
results in the cable stretching and then failing where it attaches to the
mouse. The first of those mice lasted about 15 months. Nevertheless was
a small price to pay for the amount of work she did on the laptop and the
results. :-)

Cheers,

Harry, there was a 'batch' of very inexpensive (un-badged) mice available in
this part of the world several years ago which suffered with this
affliction - all due to a faulty microswitch under the left-hand button.

Easily proved by 'reversing' the button assignments in Control Panel \ Mouse

Hopefully Heather will read this post, Mart.
That certainly explains it.
Thanks.

Harry.

Mart......does that mean that the right click will then be screwed up?? I
use it a lot. This was a Trekker Mouse that came with this computer, along
with an MS keyboard.......not an inexpensive one, i should imagine.

But am back to using a non-scrolling one, which is a real PITA!! It works
fine....so had to be my 3-1/2 year old mouse was biting the dust.

Cheers......Heather
