Word 2000 on Win 98
I'm having trouble running Word 2000 on my Win 98 PC.
The problem has only recently begun happening. When I luanch Word 2000 the system freezes. If I hold down Ctrl-Alt-Del I get the following message.... "The system is dangerously low in resources. Would you like to terminate the following application? Winword [not responding]" I've also received the following message.... "Fatal exception oe has occurred at 0167:BFF9DFFF" I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word 2000 so I'm fairly certain that's not the problem. The PC has 128mb ram and 90% resources free. There's plenty of space on the hard drive. Any ideas? |

A common cause for WORD freezing is a corrupted NORMAL.DOT file. Search for
this file and rename it, then re-start WORD. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "Mikey" wrote in message ... I'm having trouble running Word 2000 on my Win 98 PC. Thanks for your reply.
I've searched for normal.dot (showing all files and folders) but can't find a file of that name. -----Original Message----- A common cause for WORD freezing is a corrupted NORMAL.DOT file. Hmmm. I don't believe you can start WORD without it creating a file of that
name if it doesn't already exist. So your problem might be that for some reason WORD is unable to create the file. Do a thorough scandisk to confirm that there aren't problems with the file system. You could also try asking an a WORD newsgroup where the WORD specialists hang out. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "Mikey" wrote in message ... Thanks for your reply. This is from an other post. Manlia reported this error. "An unrecoverable error 0E has occurred in 0197:BFF9DFFF the current application will be terminated " This is how he solved his problem. Check it out. It seems to be solved ! Through Windows Update I downloaded and installed a revision of DiretcX 9 , the b, and from then on I had no other crashes with the "error 0E at 0197:BFF9DFFF". Now are three days and I start thinking it could be solved ! Of course I have no double check, neither I want ... go back. Anyhow for the sake of others !
