Default windows me :defragmenting drive c problem

defragmenting drive c and receive this following
error ....drive contents changed .....and restart thank
for help

Boot to Safe Mode and then run defrag. What is happening is that you
probably have a large C:\ drive and are connected to the net whilst
defragging and either your firewall, antivirus application or perhaps
connection manager is writing to the C:\ drive whilst defragging.
