Default cursors & scr's

After booting-up one day some months ago, I discovered that I had suffered
some mysterious 'removals', to wit:
1) I used to have a *slew* of different cursors (black, white, and clear,
both outlined and not, in several different sizes, plus hourglasses of
various sizes, pens of various sizes, etc.), but the folder in which they
resided had
'disappeared';
2) I used to have several more -.scr's that I do now ("Curves and Colors",
etc.) which also 'disappeared' the same morning, along with the custom
-.scr's created with the app;
3) The MS-support page says that some -.scr's have
'nicknames' on the W98 cd, but "Find" couldn't locate them or the 'formal'
names on either the original W98 cd or the W98se up-grade cd.
4) In searching the web, "Curves and Colors" doesn't seem to be in evidence
anywhere.

Is this all just a bad dream, ...or what?
