no sound
I am having problems with I'm guessing, my sound card.
I previously had windows 98. I upgraded to windows me and love it but, I now have no sound at all. I can hear my modem dialing up to connect but that is as far as the sound goes. I have a sigmatel sound card and have visited their web site and can not find any help. I tried updating drivers and received a message that I currently have the most up to date driver for this device. I booted up in safe mode and uninstalled the sigmatel card and restarted my computer and went through the wizard and reinstalled the device. I uninstalled a second time and checked the box to load a older file for the device reasoning that maybe something critical for the device to work was on a older file. Still no sound. My computer shows my sound card to be working correctly with no conflicts. Could the problem be something different? I checked my speakers and the volume on the computer. I even checked my wall receptacle. Please help me!!!!!! Thanks, Lisa |

Gypsy!
Thank you for your post regarding my problem. I tried your suggestion and like you I had no luck!!! I am so frustrated by this problem. I also am disappointed in the lack of response to my post.If not for you I would still have a zero response. So thank you for taking the time to try to help.At least I know someone read it!At least with my problem it may be that everyone is as baffled as I am the reason I have had no response! Thanks again, Lisa -----Original Message----- Lisa, Okay just wanted to let you know I posted my reply to you under "new post" instead of "reply to post", sorry it is under Not Much Help. DUH! Dear Lisa, You are so welcome, but I am sorry that nothing I suggested worked, as I said I am far from an expert. But I am relenless when it comes to finding the solutions to my porblems in spite of my lack of knowledge. We can't all be experts! Here is another thing I tryed and it at least gave me the proper info about my pc. Try downloading this tool, it's free. http://belarc.com/free_download.html As I said I am no expert, but I did manage to get mine working. I hate giving you this advice on this site. I feel like these guys don't take women as seriously as men. If you would like to communicate with me any further I would prefer not to do it on here. If they don't feel like helping then our conversations are none of their business. You can rach me at I will be glad to share some other ideas that might work. Obviously they aren't going to acknowledge this post. I put my ral emai cause no one reads it anyway I guess. LOL So feel free to contact me. Peace, Love, and Light, Gypsy Jana |

I am having a similar problem. I did a clean install of ME
and everything works except the sound. I've updated drivers, checked for conflicts and deactivated other components just in case. The strangest part is that I have no volume control in windows. I don't mean that it's not present on the computer, but that it does nothing when I try to open it. The volume control in the control panel is locked in the minimum position and is dimmed so that it can't be adjusted. If anyone else has had this problem or has fixed this problem, please email me. try this
Reboot to Safe Mode Open Device Manager Remove ALL Sound &Multimedia devices Remove ALL error-flagged devices Remove ALL entries in the 'Other Devices' branch - if present Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the required drivers, hopefully curing your problem. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Shea" wrote in message ...
