Default flash drive causes a reboot under Win98SE

My flash drive causes a reboot under Win98SE when I plug it in. Works
fine when I boot up on Win XP. I assume it is a driver problem? Any
ideas?

Yes, I'd guess it's a driver problem.
What driver are you using? What flash drive?

I resolved the reboot by changing the bios. Now, a win98se driver for
a kingston 4 GB datatraveler. Anyone?

Looks like a useful site in general.

We really don't have any enemies. It's just that some of our best friends are
trying to kill us.

It does not work for me. I get an Other Devices" listed in the Device
Manager I get the DT2PW98.EXE, unzip, run it, reboot, and no driver
installed.

Instead of insatlling separate drivers for each USB mass storage device,
and finding some of the drivers don't work, uninstall them all and
install one universal driver for them all.

I recommend using the driver from the Italian web site wintricks.it

It is not installed beforehand like some other generic drivers; rather
you point to it when Windows first detects the inserted thumb drive, as
you can see from the pictures on the web pages, even if you cannot read
Italian.
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98.html

Although the pages are in Italian, you can look at the screenshots on
some of the pages to determine how the driver is installed and
uninstalled:
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98.html
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98_2.html
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98_3.html
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98_4.html
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98_5.html
http://www.wintricks.it/faq/usbpen98_6.html
The Download link is the "Download" button on the last page.
http://www.wintricks.it/download/wtgenusb.zip

Basically, you download the driver package (.zip file), and unzip it to
a folder where you plan to store it on the computer.
When you insert your flash drive, Windows will detect it and give you
the option to find the driver.
Choose to have it look in the folder where you unzipped the downloaded
files, and it will see the .inf file there and install your flash drive.

You can use this same .inf file to install other flash drives and USB
mass storage, so save the .zip file somewhere safe and store the .inf
file in a permanent location of your choice.

Thanks Glen. Great. It worked the first time and only took a few
minutes. I have had this thing for over a year. It is nice to actually
be able to use it.....

I recommend Wintricks, too.
Another good one is nusb.exe. In my experience nusb was better at
recognizing external hdd. Other than that they were equally good.
Recognized my three Kingston devices.
There's a nusb version for both 98FE and 98SE.

Unlike Wintricks nusb will change a few menu names if you choose a
language version different from that of your OS.
