Default Windows 98 doesn't recognize my CD ROM

I just replaced my CD ROM drive. The new drive I bought is a generic Dynex
drive; the drive did not come with any software. I double checked all the
connections. The CD ROM opens and shuts, so I know there is power getting to
the drive. But when I restarted the computer after I installed the CD-ROM
drive, the CD-ROM did not appear in my directory. I tried to "Add New
Hardware" but there was seemingly no option to add my CD-ROM drive.

Any ideas on how I can get Windows to "see" my new CD ROM?

I replaced my old CD ROM because I broke one of the pins on the old one
while changing out a power supply a few months ago. I didn't need my CD ROM
until recently when I had a problem and now I need to reinstall my software
for my internet connection.

I don't like to reply your question with a question but does it show
up in Device Manager?

It does not show up in Device Manager. The closest thing my DM has to a
CDROM device are menus for "Disk Drives", "Floppy Disk controllers", & "Hard
Disk Controllers". I do have a "primary IDE controller (dual fifo)" listed
under Hard Disk Drive, but it does not indicate there is a CD ROM attached.

Bill, thanks for the help. I figured it out, I had the master/slave setting
wrong.
