How to restore SYSTEM.INI file
The SYSTEM.INI file was deleted somehow, so everytime I
turn on the pc, I get a message it cannot find a divice file that may be needed to run Windows or a Widows application. Being pretty illiterate with the pc in the first place, how do I restore this. Do I simply reinstall Windows 98 SE with my back up disc? Haven't done anything for fear of doing the wrong thing and wiping everythin out. Please help! |

How to restore SYSTEM.INI file
The system.ini file can be restored by restoring a copy of the registry.
Boot with the W98 start up floppy disk--CDRom support doesn't matter. At the A: prompt, type: C: and hit enter. At the C: prompt, type: CD Windows\Command and hit enter. At the Command prompt, type: scanreg /restore and hit enter. Pick the most recent date prior to the computer not starting. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "laverne" wrote in message ... How to restore SYSTEM.INI file
Are your sure it was SYSTEM.INI that was deleted, or a file referred to by
SYSTEM.INI? If it was a file referred to by SYSTEM.INI, what is the name of that file? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "laverne" wrote in message ...
