Default file download box, downloads in binary code

Any documents I download from the "File Download" box are
in binary code. It doesn't matter if I save to a disc or
open in current location. how do I get it to read plain
english. All other downloads are fine. Its just the file
download box. Any help appreciated.

Most things I can download with no problem. But
this "file download" box appears just for certain
documments either on a web page or maybe an email
attachment. It says "you have chosen to download a file
from this location." Then it gives the name of the file.
Example: "calander.pdf from www.beatricepublicschools.org"
Then it asks "what would you like to do with this file?"
And then you check either "Open this file from its
location" or "save this file to disc"
It has "OK, "Cancel," and "More info" buttons at the
bottom. And anything I save originating from this box
comes back to me in binary code. Any ideas? Any help
appreciated. Bob K.

You need to install the correct application to read the file you've
downloaded. For example, PDF files require Adobe Acrobat Reader be present
if you want to read them after downloading.

So when you open it you see something like:

10100101001010010011110010011000100101101001011001 0100101 ?

Or is it more like:

idjfhusydgvbklxfgnkuxygflxkcjnoxuhgfastfsukonbjiuy szzx548 ?

What specific file types: ZIP, RAR, SIT ?

Is it just PDF ? If it is just this file type, you need
Adobe Acrobat Reader either available from
http://www.adobe.com or many software CDs/installation
programs include an instalation file with a name like:
ar505enu.exe, which stands for (I suppose) " Acrobat Reader
version 5.05 ENglish User". Do a search on your comp for:

AR*.exe

A goo d place to search would be in the "Program Files"
directory.

The 'tag team' method worked well this time. ;-)
