Install Problems w/ Win Media Player 9

I ma having difficulty installing Windows Media Player 9 to my computer. I
am running Win98SE on a 900 mhz Athlon, 512 mbRam, w/ 30 gb HD.

When I was in the file install/setup portion of the initial upgrade from
the Microsoft download site, my computer froze and had to be restarted.
Since that time, I have been unable to complete the installation setup.

I receive the following error message: Another program installation wasn't
completed.
You must restart your computer before upgrading Windows. Click cancel,
restart computer, then try installing Windows Media Player 9 Series again.

I have rebooted numerous times, turned it off completely for minutes to
hours, searched the files and deleted any file similar, redownloaded the
program from Microsoft about 4x. Reinstalled about 20x. If I go ahead anc
click thru to complete the setup, it will load the program but the program
radio tuner can't maintain a connection to a radio station. It keeps
restarting itself.

Any suggestions?
