Default Can't access network icon on control panel

Hi;

I'd already sent this to "microsoft.public.windowsme.setup" before I noticed
the networking group, so apologies if this is seen twice.

I've got a laptop with Windows ME preinstalled. I'm trying to set up an
office network, but every time I double click on the Network icon in the
control panel, I get a message that says "Your system administrator disabled
the Network control panel".

This is, and always has been, a standalone laptop. I don't even have to
logon at boot up - I just go straight into the desktop. IIRC, when I first
booted up, I input my name and left the password blank. and I've never seen
a logon option since. It's not even an option for logging off! If there's a
system administrator, it's me, and apart from using Tweakui, I've never
administered anything.

Now, I know that wondows networking at the "ME" level is a bit of a black
art, so if anyone can advise me on how to fix it, either by using a
keyboard, or by re-arranging chicken's entrails over the display, I'd be
most grateful!

Default Can't access network icon on control panel

Hmmm... After some hours of otherwise chargeable time, I came across this
tweak to the registry which has given me back access to my Network icon,
although I note that I still can't get access to my passwords icon....

I'll include it here because I doubt I'm the only person with this
problem......

Do a "Start", "Run", "regedit" and "OK". Go to
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Networ
k" and look for a key labelled "NoNetSetup". If it's there, the value should
be "0"; so if it's "1", then edit it to "0", close down the registry editor
and reboot.

You can also go to
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Policies\Netwo
rk" and again change the NoNetSetup in the same way (if it's there).

Hope this helps someone else...

Regards

Tim
