Default hotmail / windows live

Has anyone any experience of hotmail upgrading to 'windows live' mail.

My daughter has been on a world tour during which her hotmail account,
automatically, (according to her) upgraded to 'Windows live'.

On her return home the account refuses to work on our humble Win ME machine.
WE rae wondering how we can make it work again.

Thanks for any help

Windows Live AFAIK, doesn't work on Win 9x systems - so you should continue
to use Hotmail..... one complicating factor is that Hotmail also withdrew
support for Outlook Express access to the free accounts some time ago, so
this may be the effect that you are now seeing on the home machine.

If not - post back, or to Hotmail groups, for more assistance.

What exact problems is tour daughter experiencing? How is she accessing
Windows Live mail - via the web or using Outlook Express? Is the problem
logging on to the web site? If so she using the correct Passport? Is
another Passport logged in, not necessarily to Livemail, on the PC? If so
sign out from that passport and then sign in using the passport associated
with the account.

Noel,

Windows Live Mail is working fine here on Win Me. I've just checked.
It's possible that my system though is a little different having been one
of those testing Live Mail for the last year so my settings may just be
different from the norm.

OE access. Free accounts that were using OE to access Hotmail prior to
the withdrawal in late 2004 continue to have access for the most part
although mistakes were made and some did lose access that should never
have done so. Mine included but OE access was restored and the allocation
increased from the former miserly 2MB to 2GB when I mentioned this at an
early stage during the beta.

Ah - thanks, Mike - wasn't aware of that......
I have one Hotmail account that continues to work, and one that is defunct
(at least AFA OE is concerned)... I probably have another couple that I
don't remember as well, that clutter up MS's servers, but WTH, they can
afford it

Thanks for all replies.
problem appears to be cleared now

she had been using web hotmail abroad, which was 'upgraded' to windows live
sometime either automatically as claimed by her or pehaps by inadvertant
selection.
windows live continued to work while abroad (internet cafes).
however on returning home it refused to work on Win Me.

however later in the evening it did work. I know not why.

I suggested that she used the 'opt out' link i found which disconnected her
from windows live without any comment, goodbye, good luck or anything. She
was then able to use her hotmail account again

thanks for your kind interest
