PC locks up after boot and login attempt
The login accounts window shows up as normal, but after entering the password
to logon I get these messages before the PC locks up: "The volume that was removed had open files on it. Next time check to see if the volume can really be removed. Press any key" I press a key, then see "The file system mounted on the volume had data that needed to be flushed. some data on the voume was lost. Next time ... (ditto). Press any key." I press a key again, then see "Fatal Exception ... " then the PC is locked up at this point. I am running Win98, Pent III, 800 MHz, plenty of hard disk space. Rebooting leads to same result. Thanks for any help. Doug |

You most likely have a Promise controller card or Promise onboard controllers for
your IDE drives....take a look at: http://www.softsynth.com/jsyn/Â*supp...ved_error.html for an explanation of the problem. Go to http://www.promise.com/support/downl...wnload_eng.asp (or go to the support site of your motherboard manufacturer if it is an embedded onboard controller or a controller card included with your brand computer) and get the latest updated driver for the Promise controller. Systems from Dell, Gateway, Micron, NEC, Fujitsu and others may include a Promise controller; and many motherboards contain an embedded Promise controller. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Doug" wrote in message ... A few years ago, had the same problem. Installed an updated promise
controller driver, and all went well. http://www.softsynth.com/jsyn/suppor...ved_error.html "glee" wrote in message ...
