Default Where could my autoexec file be?

All I have in my root directory is the following:

@C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVG6\bootup.exe
@PATH C:\PROGRA~1\WIN98RK;%PATH%
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4
REM [Header]

REM [CD-ROM Drive]
REM C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001

REM [Miscellaneous]

c:\windows\cwcdata\cwcmidi.exe /S c:\windows\cwcdata\cwcwtsmp.dat /T
c:\windows\cwcdata\cwcwtdos.osp

This doesn't look like the whole thing to me . Is the real file hidden
somewhere? Any clues?

I have explorer set to show all files and I can't find it in C:\. The
above shows up when I run sysedit.

TIA

Steve

1. Your root directory should have 10 to 20 files
of various names.
2. Win98 does not need AUTOEXEC.BAT or
CONFIG.SYS although you can use them for
special needs as here to load on boot the
Grisoft AVG application.
3. Lines in AUTOEXEC.BAT beginning
REM
are REMarks as distinct from commands i.e.
do nothing: but can be altered whenever needed
(as here to load DOS drivers for CD drives via
MSCDEX.)

Remember there will be a difference between
AUTOEXEC for your startup floppy, which requires
MSCDEX, and AUTOEXEC for everyday booting
of the PC. You can experiment with either by
(1) Making every command non-functional by
REM
at the beginning of each line, then
(2) Making one at a time functional again, to
see if you need it. Of course you have to know
what you are doing, e.g. booting from the startup
floppy with CD drives enabled etc. E.g. you would
need to load CWCMIDI at boot only if it is a DOS
app that (a) you want to use and (b) cannot run
via Windows -- which seems unlikely.

Why not? What makes you think it should be any different/bigger?

That's because you found it. Congratulations.

You have found it and it probably contains more than most.
(Certainly more than mine)
Autoexec.bat is not needed by Windows and a clean install gives me a
blank Confifgsys and Autoexec.bat
