driver problem after win98 reinstall
I reformatted the hard disk on my old Gateway pc. Reinstalled Win98, no
problem. I wanted to hook up again to my high speed internet connection so I could put all the updates on there before giving this computer to a family that needs it. But I'm unable to make a connection. Looking in hardware profiles I see the PCI ethernet driver controller needs a driver. I put in the CD that I thought came with it and I'm not having any success. Cruising with Google(on my other computer) really didn't tell me what to do either. I did read one suggestion to take the hardware out and put it back and see if Win98 recognizes it. I'd rather not if I can help it. Any suggestions? Thanks! kp |

Go to the Gateway site and put in the serial number from this PC. You will
then get to a page that has the specific hardware and drivers listed for this computer. Download and install the correct driver and you should be okay. http://support.gateway.com/support/default.asp PattyL "kp" wrote in message ... I reformatted the hard disk on my old Gateway pc. ah yes...I failed to mention...this gateway is so old that the card that's
in there is one I put in later. I guess I'm not sure what to do if the card is not the one I thought it was. Am I going to have to yank it out to look at it? probably... "PattyL" wrote in message ... That's what I would do. If you don't see the manufacturer's name on the
card, you can get it from the FCC ID number. See this page: http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/help.html PattyL "kp" wrote in message ... ah yes...I failed to mention...this gateway is so old that the card that's in there is one I put in later.
