windows 98 second edition
When I restarted my PC and it got to the screen where you have a username and
password an error appeared. It told me i needed to re-install windows. I tried starting in safe mode and the same error appeared so I tried to go into ms dos mode and from here I am stuck. I noticed when my pc was booting up the following info appeared: error: memory manager not detected creative SB16 Emulation Driver requires Emm386 creative SB16 Emulation Driver NOT loading When the 5 options show which do I choose? Should I have my bootup floppy or windows cd in the pc as it is restarting. If so which of the 3 options should I use? |

I noticed when my pc was booting up the following info appeared: error: memory manager not detected creative SB16 Emulation Driver requires Emm386 creative SB16 Emulation Driver NOT loading These look like DOS error messages. But Win98 does not require DOS utilities (it uses its own Windows drivers). The error messages may go away if you reboot without AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS (which Win98 does not need.) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

When I tried to get into windows an error showed as : a required .dll file,
msvcrt.dll was not found When I go to restart the pc the screen shows: error: memory manager not detected creative SB16 Emulation Driver requires Emm386 creative SB16 Emulation Driver NOT loadin Is there someone who can give me step by step instructions on how to fix this issue i would deeply appreciate it Don Phillipson wrote: I noticed when my pc was booting up the following info appeared: error: memory manager not detected creative SB16 Emulation Driver requires Emm386 creative SB16 Emulation Driver NOT loading These look like DOS error messages. Boot MS-DOS (from floppy if needed.) 2. Get to C: done by keying C and colon 3. REN AUTOEXEC.BAT AUTOEXEC.BAK REN CONFIG.SYS CONFIG.BAK 3b. You can also check their contents by PRINT AUTOEXEC.BAT /P 4. Reboot. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

The message you have received indicates that part of the boot process has
failed. Specifically, the memory manager has not loaded. This module isn't really required for W98, but it indicates that something has gone wrong with the system, which you need to sort out. Either the disk file from which this program is loaded is corrupted or the program is not starting after it gets loaded. This indicates either a corrupted hard disk (most likely) or another hardware error, such as bad memory. Given your subsequent problems, I would suspect a corrupted hard disk. I would recommend that you stop trying to use Windows in order to avoid further corruption. Get a good hard disk drive diagnostic from the www site of your disk drive manufacturer (or, perhaps, from any manufacturer) and give the disk a good examination. When you know that the disk is working OK you can proceed to replace and repair the damaged files. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "cab" u31421@uwe wrote in message news:6d3452717e8d9@uwe... Go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and create a Windows
98 boot disk. Use it to start the computer, select "Start with CD support", then insert your Windows 98 CD and type the following two command lines. rename c:\autoexec.bat autoexec.bak for %k in (%path%) do extract /a /L C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM %kwin98\base4.cab MSVCRT.DLL Ben "cab" u31421@uwe wrote in message news:6d35435e9b63e@uwe...
