Default pav temporary files problem

..tmp search on Win Me shows more than 12000 pav temporary files with
different numerical and alphanumerical suffixes, unable to delete with
'select all' and 'delete'. Even if some files are deleted with right click
and delete, it seems other pav files with different suffixes are added when
searched again. Thanks for any help in this respect.

Ok. Thanks!

In fact, I'm not using Panda Antivirus, however, I did apply free Panda
Ativescan once recently, but didn't make it to comlete being extremely slow.
I removed the entry of Panda Activescan found in Add/Remove program, but the
huge quantum of pav files do appear as before. Though I've tried to delete
some files with rt click/delete there has been no reduction in number of
files??? Any suggestion on how to get rid of these files. Thanks.

Try using this tool to cleanup your (supposedly gone) Panda install - then
delete the pav files a screen-load at a time using SHIFT+DEL (avoids pitting
them in the Recycle bin)

Thanks for the response.

Tried Windows Installer Cleanup. Found no entry for Panda install (At least
I could not make out from the entries). Deleted all pav files with
SHIFT+DELETE but unfortuately on carrying out .tmp search, the pav files
again reappeared. The only difference being in number reduced from 12000+ to
9000+.

OK - what file/folder are these files in?

Have you tried deleting them from a DOS boot using a startup floppy?

.... Well, the pav files are in C:\windows\TEMP.

.... Sorry, I havn't tried deleting them from DOS boot using a startup floppy
because I'm not aware of the startup floppy nor the procedure for deleting
from DOS boot.

Fair enough.....

Boot to DOS using your startup floppy (Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
| Startup DIsk)

at the A: prompt type

DELTREE C:\WINDOWS\TEMP

when it asks for confirmation make SURE that you've got it right!!!
type "y", and hit the return key - then wait for a while (about 30 minutes,
possibly!!)

When control returns to the a:\ prompt, remove the floppy, and reboot to
Windows - it will recreate the TEMP folder as an empty one - hopefully
solving your problem.

Thanks for the solution but I'll be able to work on it only when the Startup
Disk is created. Any possible simple solution? TIA.

If you can't create a Startup disk using Add/Remove Programs, then download
a diskmaker from www.bootdisk.com (the Win ME OEM one), run it to create the
floppy, and then use that to boot the machine.
