control panel blank

Hi all,
In scanning for and deleting malware on my computer with online
scanners- I lost the icons in control panel-I just get a blank window. Also
my recycle bin's window only shows half the info with the other half of the
window blank . When I go to windows update, I get a blank page. etc I
think it is all related.

It all started when I downloaded to try different firewalls, 'Kerio', and
virus scanners-'2sq', Avast. The Kapersky scanner had really messed up my
computer (I think this one started the problems).
I have tried Norton and McAfee in the past, but they are such large
programs and also something going wrong with them. The free anti-virus and
firewall programs are much smaller and don't usually cause many problems.
