I have the same problem, had it for a while now... tried the
http://aumha.org/downloads/thumnail.zip but thats done nothing for me at
all...

I did lose the create new folder menu item too at the same time but thats
now cured...

any other ideas anyone to restore the thumnail option... nvidia drivers

are
a pain, caused both probs...

Thanks Charles for mentioning the missing New folder menu in this thread.
Thought I'd better check it out and found it was missing from my File menu
too, but thanks to your other post and the .reg fix, it's now cured.

The missing thumbnail view option from the "View" menu remains unresolved.
Must be a reg entry but where to look......

I've been pursuing finding a solution to this in the X-Setup forum since
losing the Thumbnail View after installing the latest nVidia drivers
about three months ago. I also lost the "New" and "Sharing" commands.
One of the posters, graffster, provides a link to set of registry
entries that apparently resolves this. I've not had a chance to work
through checking any of the registry entries to verify that it restores
the Thumbnail View. In looking at the entries, it appears some of them
are specific to restoring the "Find", "Sharing", and "New" commands. I
can post the .reg file with these entries if you would like to work
through them. Here's the link to the thread:

The problem of the lost Thumbnails option seems to be because the
following registry entries are removed by nVidia.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ExtShellFolder Views\{8BEBB290-52D0-11d0-B7F4-00C04FD706EC}]
"Attributes"=dword:60000000
"ISV"=hex(2):7b,38,42,45,42,42,32,39,30,2d,35,32,4 4,30,2d,31,31,64,30,2d,42,37,\
46,34,2d,30,30,43,30,34,46,44,37,30,36,45,43,7d,00

For those not using the web interface to these newsgroups I've attached a
zip file containing the missing entries that when merged with the registry
should restore the ability to select Thumbnail view.

I can't test this myself as I haven't list the ability to select thumbnail
mode but deleting the above key does so and restoring the key restores the
ability to select thumbnail view.

Feedback most welcome.

absolutely brilliant... that done the trick as far as thumbnails go...

1) The 'New' function and its associated submenu (FIXED) thanks to "Mike
Maltby"
2) The Thumbnail selection from the View Menus (FIXED) thanks to "Mike
Maltby"
3) File sharing functions
4) File copying functions
5) DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) functions
(list obtained from http://www.x-setup.net/forum/showthread.php?t=475 )

just a few more probs left to cure thanks to the ignorance of nvidia...

being that your doing so well... any ideas on the rest of them... Mike...

Mike,

I tried it. The registry key works to restore the Thumbnails View. I
compared what you listed to the entries from the X-Setup forum, and the
key you posted was one of the entries. This was a hard one to track down.

No problem Charles. Thanks for that feedback.

Since it worked you might as well have the rest of the key which should
hopefully put the lot back.

I've attached another zipped reg file called directory.zip

Thanks Tom. It was your post listing what also was missing (New, Find &
Sharing) that told me which key was causing the problem and it took just a
couple of tests to check out which specifically was the key/value set used
to enable thumbnail view. I've just posted the entire key as Charles has
now mentioned his having lost the other functions you mentioned in your
post.

Regards - and thanks again for mentioning all that was missing and thus
saving me some time finding which of several keys could have been the
cause of the thumbnail problem.
