Default Winlogon.exe file infected

Norton has told me that my winlogon.exe is infected with the W32.Netsky.D@mm virus. It has quaranteed the file, but I could not delete it. Norton could NOT clean the file. How can I delete the file and re-install it with an uninfected one? Win 98SE. Thank you!

Most AV programs know only what files
were infected. They do not know whether
they are your genuine Win98 files altered
by the virus or bogus files the virus wrote
to your hard drive (and Registry.)

1. Search NGs like this for guidance. You
will find 5 to 10 posts confirming WINLOGON
is spurious.

2. DOS is your saviour.
In DOS, either DELete or REName any
suspect file. Then reboot.
Then interpret error messages.
2a. If you get error messages but the PC
runs OK, you know it was a dud file (and can
find and remove file calls to it.)
2b. If the PC will not run, follow prompts to
restore a good version of the file you changed.

It isn't "your" file. It is an invader.

It has quaranteed the file, but I could not delete it. Norton could NOT clean the file.
How can I delete the file

and re-install it with an uninfected one?

Forget that. It IS the virus. You do NOT want it.
