Real Player version "RealOne, version 2"?
Has anybody tried this version of Real Player (version "RealOne, ver 2")?
This version apparently came out before the latest (and more bloated) current version, Real Player version 10.x. So I was wondering if anyone had tried it out. I'm still using the older Real Player version 8, which works great for music at a lot of sites, but some sites want a newer version. If this RealOne version 2 isn't too invasive, and doesn't always want to dial for updates, and if it isn't bloatware, I might give it a shot. But I'd appreciate hearing from you folks that have tried it. |

I think I may have found the answer to my own question by looking around on
the Internet. Looks like this one is bloatware too (includes media player, a music jukebox, and a built-in media browser). So thanks, but no thanks! If you're not already familiar with it, one alternative you may want to
consider is Real Alternative, found he http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm It does what it says, and will supplant RealPlayer. It can take a little patience to set up. If you recall my little GoBack harangue awhile back on another thread, this is an ideal use for it, as I have done in this exact situation with these two programs. You install it, and if you have a problem or don't like the results, you revert, thus avoiding the uninstall/reinstall syndrome. Currently I use both (it's a long story). Yeah, I've heard of Real Alternative. You use BOTH Real Alternative AND
Real Player? (what version of Real Player - the newer one)? (don't want that one) Roger, I'm using the "True Blue", Real Player 8, so what on earth could Real Alternative offer me that I don't already have - UNLESS it supports all the newest crap that Real version 10.x does (which I would guess it would NOT, but I don't know for sure). Let me look.... Actually, just looking at that web site, and what it says there, the features, and its exe filesize, it looks to me to be a clone of the older Real Player, version 8. (which works great for me as it is, except for those sites that want the latest and greatest version installed) Roger Fink wrote: If you're not already familiar with it, one alternative you may want to consider is Real Alternative, found he http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm It does what it says, and will supplant RealPlayer. I should add that the one difficulty I had was in getting it to play
streaming audio. I think it's doable however - with its other set of codecs it's now the default for windows streaming audio and works fine. Unfortunately, there is not much in the way of help, including on-line forums, to deal with specific problems. Then you might want to consider using the true blue Real Player version 8.
(suggested only as a possibility). I *have* read of some occasional problems with these "Alternatives", but Real Player 8 is great (at least for the somewhat older streaming media) Roger Fink wrote: I should add that the one difficulty I had was in getting it to play streaming audio. Yes, I agree with you about RP8 and that's what I use, shorn of its
invasiveness, for anything it's capable of handling. The codec package with RP Alternative does let you play more but it's been awhile since I installed it and for me the whole subject is impossibly complicated so looking back I can't be more specific. But actually I lied - I use three and a half players if you add in WMP7 and QT plug-in. Media Player Classic = RP Alternative, but with a different codec package and that's what I use. The only thing I can't play now are MP4's and latest model DIVX. The Alternative/Classic player lets you play the newer formats without "upgrading" to the newer DRM-encrusted models. My original intent was to use RPA/MPC for everything and get rid of the others. I got there, except for streaming media, so, life being short and the problem difficult, I settled on a hybrid setup.
