Default CDROM optimisation settings

Everytime I reboot computer, the settings in CDROM optimization access pattern
(Win 98 My computer(right click)-Properties-Performance-File
System-CDROM)
resets to no read-ahead from my setting of Quad-speed or higher.

Why?? Virus??

I have not installed anything new on my system except a few Win98 patches
from Windows update web page on Microsoft web site recently.

Any info. is appreciated
