cd/dvd drive not accessible
I just bought an older sony vaio running win98 and it
won't recognize the cd/dvd drive. It should be the original OS and hardware. I know the previous owner tried to set it up as originally set up. I've tried the 4 fixes that Ron suggested: 1. how do I put marks in the drives 2. yes it reads z 3. also reads z 4. says nothing of msdos my cd/dvd drive is G and trying to click on it says it's not accessible. it shows 0 used and 0 free space. any other ideas? Thanks!!!!! -----Original Message----- 1. Do you have Tweak UI installed? If so, go to My Computer tab and put marks in all drives. 2. Check for a lastdrive statement in the config.sys file and if it exists, make sure it reads: lastdrive=z 3. Run regedit.exe and open it to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVers ion\Setup In the right pane, look for a last drive statement and if it is present, make sure it reads "Z" 4. Control panel, system, performance tab: is there any comment about MSDos compatibility mode? -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo |

The article gives instructions on how to get your computer to recognize the cd-rom using files from your win98 start up disk. goodluck |
