Default CDROM Drive

Unable to open CDROM drive, PC won't recognize Drive D.

No pinhole to open the drive either, PC is HP and very
old, perhaps 6 years or more.

How can we get pc to recognize drive and how can we open
it. Do we have to boot up in safe mode to do this? Do we
have to reinstall Win 98?

And another problem with Lexmark printer, out of date and
not supported. Can we remove it from system and re-
install it, unable to locate original CDROM to install
(plus we can't open the drive), can we download from
Lexmark site and re-install?

Thanks in advance.

Don

It appears the drive has failed. Pull the drive from another computer and
try it in your friend's PC.

Good luck.

And Ron's probley right about the Drive. It could have
faild. What can couse a CD-ROM drive to fail is HEAT,DIRT
and DUST(that can couse over heating),Moter burnd up,
The IDE cable connected backwords,or just being old and
used a lot.
