Not enough free memory to defragment drive
Despite having 1GB of RAM with 70% free resources I get an error message
stating I have insufficient free memory whenever I try to use Disk Defragmenter. I have tried closing down all applications and have also tried running in Safe Mode to defrag. but the same error message appears. The HDD I am using is a 160GB SATA. Any suggestions? |

The cluster size is too small for the size of the disk.

How was the disk set up? Does if have a "drive overlay" installed? Is that one 160GB partition? If so, you need to divide the disk up into smaller volumes. I would suggest 128GB at the very largest, but prefer closer to 64GB. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q229154/ http://www.48bitlba.com/win98.htm I would also suggest you look into installing intel's "Application Accelerator" if your chipset is supported. Read through the documents carefully. If you have a DDO installed, it may not be compatible and/or there will be other issues you will need to deal with. http://www.intel.com/support/chipset.../cs-009299.htm http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/ |

Correct. However, there is no way to increase the cluster size past 32k,
so OP will have to divide the disk up smaller. "SFB - KB3MM" wrote in message ... The cluster size is too small for the size of the disk. "Bill Blanton" wrote in message ...
