difficulty 'seeing' *.dll files
I recently installed W98SE on a computer with no operating system.
(This is the first time I've done this.) On finishing I tried to install the software from an ATT connection service and got a message that a file 'wisehlp.dll' was not found on the CDROM and the installation of the ATT software terminated. I then used Windows Explorer to examine the CD and found that it could not 'see' any dll files on the CD. Just to check the CD, I used it to install the ATT software on a laptop that has a factory-installed W98 OS. The installation proceeded without a problem and it 'saw' numerous dll files. Is it possible that I have neglected an important component of W98SE in my setup? I haven't looked for other dll files in other programs and perhaps I ought to do this. Any useful ideas about a solution of this problem will be appreciated. (The ATT chatline has been useless.) Merkin |

What do you mean by 'see'? Are you saying that all the files are listed
correctly except for any files that have the filename extension "DLL"? What happens if you copy the CD to the hard drive - are DLL files copied? Can you see DLL files on the hard drive, or on another CD? Using the other machine, when you look at the properties of a DLL file are they different in any way than the properties of another file that is visible? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "merkinp" wrote in message ... Yes; all files are listed correctly except for the DLL files. I shall try to
copy the CD to the HD and look for DLL files. I have not looked for DLL files on the HD yet, I only thought of this after I stopped working on the problem. I have not yet looked for DLL files on the HD. I saw nothing unusal when I used the other machine to examine the DLL files. I'll try checking some of these points.
