USB 2.0 Ports in New AMD Athlon 64 mobile 3200 Via Chipset
I am having a problem installing the Via usb driver in Win
98. 1st I use win98 as base partition with System commander. Then XP and then Linux testing. USB 2.0 drive loads says it install correctly in sytems Device manager, but operates at usb 1.0 rate. Slower than 1.1 rate with out the drive installed. If I uninstall the drive it works good again at 1.1.. Is this a problem because of the obsolesence of win98? |

System Commander has diddly squat to do with it.
You need to check system requirements for the motherboard and its drivers for USB 2.0 to work with plain jane 98. "DWalker" wrote in message ... No kidding.? on System commander. I just stated I use it
to swithc operating system Win98SE. not plan jane The via drivers are for the chipset but Win98SE will not recognize and goes in to slow usb mode. -----Original Message----- System Commander has diddly squat to do with it. Let me do this correctly
-----Original Message----- System Commander has diddly squat to do with it. No Kidding? It is for switching operating systems at boot time. You need to check system requirements for the motherboard and its drivers for USB 2.0 to work with plain jane 98. No.1 it is not plan jane but win98se. I do have the specs. the via drivers just do not work. I asked what is causing this or is it because win98SE is obsolete. "DWalker" wrote in message ... You never indicated SE. Read your post again. SE does not support USB 2.0
natively either. Its a driver the motherboard maker or add-on card maker should provide. Only MS OS that does support USB 2.0 natively is XP SP1, but not all USB 2.0 is supported. There are two sets of drivers. One for USB, one for USB 2.0 When installed properly, USB 2.0 will be noted as EHCI or enhanced host controller. Motherboard drivers may or may not be associated with USB 2.0 installation on your install CD. Usually USB 2.0 driver would fall under a separate folder on the CD. System Commander, and any other OS have nothing to do with your problem. wrote in message ... No kidding.? on System commander. USB 2.0 Ports in New AMD Athlon 64 mobile 3200 Via Chipset
As Dave has said, you must have USB 2.0 drivers installed for Win98SE. However, if
the USB 2.0 ports are on an add-on PCI card rather than on the motherboard, you must install drivers from the PCI card's disc. Are your USB 2.0 posts on the motherboard or on an add-on card? Have you installed USB 2.0 drivers for the USB 2.0 device? The disc that came with the particular USB 2.0 device should have Win98SE drivers also, if the manufacturer of the device included support for Win98SE. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "DWalker" wrote in message ...
