Default TCP/IP AND NETBEUI

We all know that when we search the Internet we use TCP/IP protocol to
communicate with other computers around the globe. But sometimes we use
Netbeui protocol too. Someone told me that the Netbeui protocol is very
efficient protocol to use when you are using in a quite small LAN. And
do not need routable .so question arises. When we use both TCP/IP and
Netbeui the same time. What will happen? When computer try to
communicate to other computers, which use both TCP/IP and Netbeui too.
What protocol will be used? Or do computers use one instead of the
other? Or do they use both protocol simultaneously?

Generally, what happens is that your network starts acting strangely and you
can't figure out why. Only one protocol should be bound to File and Printer
Sharing at a time, and I generally recommend that you use TCP/IP for this
because it's fairly simple to configure, generally already installed, and
allows for troubleshooting when necessary.

Netbeui is rarely used anymore...
but you may want to look at this if you have a special case:

Default TCP/IP AND NETBEUI

Netbeui is very fast in a small network but it also creates a lot of network
traffic because it broadcasts messages rather than sending a message to a
specific computer.

There should not be any problem with using Netbeui locally as well as
TCP/IP - in fact multiple protocols were installed by default in earlier
versions of Windows when you added network support and this did not create a
problem. That said, it isn't necessary. The only reason to add multiple
protocols is to be able to communicate with computers that do not use your
primary protocol so if you had computers on your network that did not use
TCP/IP for some reason and you wanted to communicate with them, you could
add the protocol that it was using - such as Netbeui or IPX/SPX.
