Default Botched Windows 98 Reinstall

My computer froze at 53% during a Windows 98 reinstall. I
chose to keep the old files. Windows tried to recover the
install, but was unsuccessful. I am unable to finish the
install, since my computer no longer recognized the a and
d drives.

I can start in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with network
support. However, the icons on My Computer, Network
Neighborhod and the Recycle Bin have all changed to the
same icon you get when Windows doesn't know which file it
is associated with. I am unable to access our home
network, so I can't map a drive to my other computer to
finish the install.

What can I do? Thanks in advance for any help you can
give me.

Thank you, Ron, but that solution won't work since the
computer doesn't recognize Drive D, or Drive A. I've even
tried to start up with a startup disk in Drive A. It
doesn't see it.

Any other suggestions?

If drive D is your CD-ROM, then get a utility to create a new boot floppy at
www.bootdisk.com. It can install the correct drivers for almost all CD-ROM
drives. Note that the drive letter for the CD-ROM might be one higher than
you are used to, or it might be R. You need to watch the startup closely to
determine what it is.

Either your startup floppy disk is bad, the drive is bad or the floppy drive
is not selected as the first boot device in the boot section of the BIOS.

You can make a floppy boot disk with the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the
W98 CD: tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd or you can download one he
http://www.bootdisk.com/

To get into the BIOS, watch the boot screen and press the key indicated to
get into setup (the BIOS). Once in, there are navigation instructions
listed.
