Default Conflict of Product Numbers

I have win98SE installed on our computer and was having so
many missing error messages that I decided to install
win98SE with a different product number. It did not fully
install and the properties on my system show the product
registered in the original product number. How can I
uninstall my win98SE system? In the ADD/Remove neither
win98 are listed. As you can imagine this is causing
havoc with newer programs being installed and also tells
me each time I load my computer "Windows is running for
the first time". Help!
Thanks,
Shirley

You can't uninstall Win98 from Add\Remove Programs, formatting the HDD
and starting afresh is an option for you.
Please note BEFORE you start,
1. back up all required data off the PC
2. you have a working bootdiskette, or the ability to boot from your
CD ROM drive and bootable win98 CD
3. all the drivers for your devices [motherboard, graphics, sound, modem
etc]
4.a valid product key for the CD you will be using to install win98
