Want to change to windows 98se without using the custom made CD but need specific drivers
Hi,
I have an older Compaq Presario desktop machine. It came with windows 98 on the restore CD that came with it. I also have an OEM (?) windows 98 SE CD disk that came with a locally built computer by a small independent store. It also had other CD s with the drivers for the sound card and video and modem in it so I do not think it was specially burnt for the model configuration they built like the Compaq machine' restore CD. If I run fdisk from a floppy and then use the win 98 se CD to get a system on the drive could I then use the original CD in order to get the drivers needed for the specific components in the Compaq? Using the add new hardware could I navigate to that drive letter the CD is in and would it find the proper driver for the specific modem, sound card and video card? Or do I need to go to the web and download all the drivers I will need that is if they are still available? Thank you. DJW |

You will have to look at the Compaq restore CD and see what is available.
At one time, the files were in password protected Zip files and if yours is the same, what you want to do would be impossible. Take a look at the HP (Compaq) web site and see if the drivers are available for download. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "DJW" wrote in message ps.com...
