Default my pictures in ME

I've just started putting pics in the 'My Pictures'
folder. When I try to look at them a box comes up asking
me what program do I want to use to open them.
Which one do i use?

It depends what sort of pics they are.
What file extensions are you having the problem with?

If you do not have a graphics viewer to use for the particular type of
pictures you have, then try IrfanView - Freeware Graphic Viewer:

I've put in JPEG's, GIF's & BMP's When I try to open any
of them in 'My Pictures' a box appears with a list of
programs asking me which program do I want to use to open
my picture. I would just like to know which one I should
be using.

As WinMe only has Paint installed as it's 'default' viewer (which only opens
basic formats e.g. .BMP's, in its standard-installed state) this would not
*normally* let you view .jpg's etc.

However, you *may* have other viewer utilities installed (possibly
associated with Office) which allow you to view (and associate) different
graphics files, so the choice is yours. Like most things "Windows" - there
are many ways of doing the same thing and you - the user - have the freedom
to choose whatever suits you best.

... I would just like to know which one I should be using.

No definitive answer, but once you decide then you should/could 'associate'
each individual type of graphic file to always open with that viewer.

By default Win Me uses "Image Preview" to view files with a BMP, JPG and
GIF extension amongst others. You can restore this association using
Control Panel | Folder Options | File Types and for each of these file
types, highlight the file type extension in the list of registered file
types and then click Change and then select Image Preview from the list of
applications presented in the "Open With" window.

Addendum :-

"Image Preview" - as discussed by Mike M in his post *may* also be installed
by default - It's an 'option' in Control Panel under Add/Remove Programs |
Accessories etc.,

It seems that it may depend on the OEM as to whether or not it is installed
'by default'

Good luck.
